1. Mumbai to get mayor after 4 years; BMC polls on Feb 11.

After nearly four years, Mumbai will finally get a Mayor, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announcing that the mayoral election will be held on February 11 at 12 pm. Official information regarding the schedule has now been confirmed. The nomination process for the Mayor will take place on February 7. The election for the post of Deputy Mayor will also be conducted on the same day as the mayoral poll. đź“– Read More

2. Mumbai gets an inclusive aqua therapy pool for children with disabilities.

A 12‑year-old boy with cerebral palsy cycled and stretched his legs in water for the first time on Wednesday, as ADAPT (Able Disabled All People Together) inaugurated a new temperature‑controlled Aquatic Therapy Pool at its Bandra centre. 3. BMC updates records, targets ₹22,000 crore arrears with strict action on defaulters.

To step up property tax revenue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is updating property area, usage and ownership records to bring newly tax-eligible units under the tax net. Officials have been directed to identify and closely monitor major defaulters ward-wise and to launch a special drive against long-pending dues, including notices, penalties, interest, and attachment or auction of properties where required. 4. Mumbai–Pune Expressway expansion stuck as ₹16,000 crore MSRDC proposal awaits government nod amid rising traffic chaos.

The Mumbai–Pune Expressway remained disrupted for nearly 30 hours following an accident involving a gas tanker. Due to the sudden closure of the highway, hundreds of vehicles were forced to remain stranded at the same spot for several hours. Despite being one of the state’s most important highways, the government has been unable to take a decision on the expressway expansion proposal for the past four months. đź“– Read More

5. Mumbai’s lung cancer burden rising among non-smokers: report.

A report titled Cancer Incidence in India, published on February 3, by the Centre for Cancer Epidemiology, Tata Memorial Centre, shows that adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer, which often affects non-smokers as well, has overtaken squamous cell carcinoma as the dominant lung cancer subtype in the city, particularly among women. According to the report, adenocarcinoma accounts for 56 per cent of lung cancer cases in Mumbai, compared to 28 per cent for squamous cell carcinoma and 16 per cent for small cell carcinoma. đź“– Read More

In the firing incident outside the residence of noted Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty, all five arrested accused were on Wednesday remanded to six days of police custody by the Esplanade Court till February 11.
